ampersand international arts is thrilled to announce Alan Miknis' solo exhibition featuring his series Middle-Americana. Miknis was first introduced to ampersand international arts in the group show “private pARTs”, curated by Young Ampersand, in 2010. April 10th, 2015 he will return to the space with his gouache on paper portraits of the wild world of individuals inside Middle-Americana.
Inspired by a yard-sale treasure depicting an image of two singing children in Victorian garb, Miknis created over twenty new duos in similar positions with original and modern details. Growing up in a rural, south-Georgia town, and currently living in San Francisco, pushed him to define a median between necessity and excess within each creation. Both lighthearted and harsh, Middle-Americana is an imaginative exploration of curious individuals in our modern society. Miknis' playful use of loud colors upon a blank background combined with out of the ordinary elements, gives each pair a unique and radical life.
Please join us for the solo exhibition of the talented Alan Miknis' Middle-Americana, Friday, April 10th through Friday, May 22nd, 2015.
